Bob, thank you very much for the book recommendation. I stopped by a local second hand book store and it was sitting right there in the history section. Very nice book. The other volumes were there too but I could only afford so much.

As an alternative, you could get the collected paperback edition of volumes 1 to 6...:

Amazon.com: Uniforms of the Ss: Collected Edition Volumes 1 to 6 (9781859150481): Andrew Mollo, Hugh Page Taylor: Books

...plus the original edition of vol. 7, which, for some reason, was not incorporated into the paperback.

That's what I did, although I must admit that I purchased
the paperback more than a decade ago when it was way cheaper.

Of course 150 Dollars is still a lot of money, but it should be less expensive
than buying the original six hardcover volumes individually.

Ah, well I will keep it in mind. I actually didn't pay much for the hardcover, so no big deal.

Everyone has been a big help, thank you all. Makoff, your contribution may prove particularly useful...Although I have heard Oakleaf is an operation that requires one to wade through the bad stuff to find some good-- can anyone verify for certain the cap's authenticity?

I am suspicious of the totenkopf-- the jaw indentation looks too shallow? Perhaps just beginner's paranoia.
