Mystery SS(?) Collar Tabs

Article about: Do you have any of his personal items? Uniforms, papers, medals, signatures, etc?

    Default Mystery SS(?) Collar Tabs

I recently acquired this picture of my Great Grandfather, Adolf Hasse.

He was a German living in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. According to my grandmother (his daughter), when the SS rolled in, he was conscripted into their service and employed as a night watchman.

This is the only picture I have of him. Can anyone comment on the collar tabs (and hat if possible) he is wearing? Could this be definite evidence that he was employed by the SS?

He has a kind face and reminds me of the silent film star Charlie Chaplin.
Collar tabs are probably foriegn SS.

Thanks for the response, Steve. I wish I had known the man...

My Grandmother, her siblings, and my Great Grandmother were taken away to be Ost-Arbeiter in Yugoslavia... My Grandmother said they picked fruit initially, but towards the end of the war, they dug "machine gun trenches and panzer holes." My Grandmother said that she saw her father one more time and they spoke for only a few minutes. She said he was part of a German troop movement... he had to move out and was never seen again.

He is indeed a 'dashing' looking fellow.

You have some fascinating family history there !

This image is truly haunting .. I cant get over his icy blue eyes ! Looks like we have the same thing in common, as far as my G-Grandpa from Lituania was an SS volunteer, unfortunatly I have no photos of him as nice as this! I hope you will have it prof. framed with acid-free paper and UV glass then displayed proudly along with the rest of the family pictures in the living room.
Please post this pic on Bill T.'s thread,

also, ask Bill, AKA 'Panzer1031' if he would colorize this image, I think it would look swell. He has a thread for colorizing, too.He did the pic in my avatar
Do you have a special photo you want colorized??

    Thanks, Dean!

I will post my Great Grandfather in the two threads you posted.

I found this collar tab on the Collector's Guild... is it a match for the tabs my Great Grandfather would have worn?

Here is a picture of my grandma that I took a few months ago. We call her "Omi." She is 86yrs old and still going strong. She is still very independent... and as you can imagine, we have to remind her to slow down and take it easy. She says she takes a shot of vodka each morning to get her circulation going...

You can't really tell from this picture, but she has the same eyes as her father.

This is a picture of my Omi, her family, and some people they knew in a refugee camp.

I believe this picture was taken at a funeral for a younger sibling that didn't survive...
