A copy of a super rare item. Backing should be a metal plate with mounting pin but the quality of this falls short of an original .

Sorry, but: Where does that information come from? Could it be that you are confusing it with the breast badge for the evening dress uniform?

Thanks, Dan. I hadn't read that before.

I must say, I find it extremely odd that an embroidered cloth badge was mounted this way. Offhand, I can't think of any other example for this.

Only as the writer says, "similar to ribbon bars".

    Cheers, Dan

Personally I don't believe this combined SS/SA badge ever existed. Photographic evidence clearly shows that the badge worn by the SS had runes on both sides of the eagle. In all the mentions of the badge in reference books I have yet to see a citation or any evidence that convinces me that such a badge existed.
The badge was referred to as the "SS-Flugzeugfuehrerabzeichen" and was still allowed to be worn after the dissolution of the SS flying formations by order of Himmler.
In fact, I remember reading some correspondence from an officer who was having problems getting the RZM to make some examples that he needed in 1937. I will try and find that file and post something.
