Sepp Dietrich's cap eagle...

The reality is much different from the misinterpretation worked by those ignorant of the past as concerns this regalia.
Dietrich was only acting like many, many, many others in the past who flaunted regulations.

It was not unusual to find Heer eagles worn on caps but also as sleeve eagles. Click image for larger version.

Bravo, we have not seen this cap for awhile. A very nice piece with character. Here are some army caps with such flamboyant Hoheitszeichen.

Mollo writes at length about the intrusion of military fashion into the SS at arms, to say nothing of Himmler's speeches in their number, in which he seeks to distinguish the SS from other organizations, be they the SA or the regular army.
It is a well known and well researched theme.

The reality of our interest is endlessly more complex than some of the terrible simplifier and internet soap box tyrants would have us believe. Thanks to Bob Coleman for his aid here from his wonderful collection. Bob Coleman along with a tiny number of others have done much to resist the tyranny of such internet savants and snake oil salespersons and their horrid effects on our capacity to learn more and do so without dreading opening our emails.

At least you know that such things did exist. One becomes advanced by studying and learning from fellow collectors for many years. I have also seen photographic evidence of Heer and political eagles worn by other ranks SS men on feldmutze.
