    Default ski-muetze? 'dienstkappe'

    Hi -

have you guys heard of an e.m. w-ss pz m43 with an 'ss-dienstkappe' stamping on the lining? Cap has two silver pebbled buttons, says the clerk at the out of state antiques mall (dealer wasn't in); and no pulldown loops. Only other mark is size. Insignia is a trap that isn't sewn thru the lining.

The '...kappe' stamping makes me very very wary. Sorry no pix but then i suspect none are needed :--- /

and now a specialist from another 'site suggests tho it's unlikely it might with this mark be an allg-ss skimuetze. liebe fb or mr. coleman, others please contribute thoughts. Hi -

have you guys heard of an e.m. W-ss pz m43 with an 'ss-dienstmutze' stamping on the lining? Cap has two silver pebbled buttons, says the clerk at the out of state antiques mall (dealer wasn't in); and no pulldown loops. Only other mark is size. Insignia is a trap that isn't sewn thru the lining.

The 'kappe' stamping makes me very very wary. Sorry no pix (only could ask on 'fone) but then I suspect none are needed....

and now someone on another forum suggests that, tho unlikely, this COULD be an allg.-ss skimuetze, converted with late style insignia to a pz. 'M43'.

the only 'kappe' mark I think I've seen are in political kepis....

thanks for any and all help, david

The black and grey ski caps used in the SS are illustrated in the Shea Beaver and Spronk Saris books.

    fb - cheers for that.

yes I know for sure customary usage is 'muetze.'

as to the black ski-muetze, I b'lieve the only sort extant for the allg.-ss is the one you illustrate here, as also worn by heydrich and other skiers during at least a contest in the tirol or wherever.

all these skiers to my recollection wore the 'high peak' cap you've posted a pic of with a metal t.k. and black buttons - not the silver pebbled ones I'm told the 'kappe' in question is adorned with.

still, maybe the original buttons were replaced; the insignia too - though some will think I've been drinking to hope it's the Real Deal. 'coz if that's what it turns out to be, the cap must be hopelessly rare.

obviously I'll do my best to get the AWOL dealer or the shop clerk to make some fotos.

    thanks again!

There is a green one in a leading collection and a black one----see attached---, too, also in a leading collection. The images are in the internet and the colored collector books.

Any piece of today you will have to look at fairly skeptically.

The black caps had the Feldmuetze tag found in the 1934 Schiffchen in black.

The existing example was made, of all place, by Mueller of Muenchen. This piece has a high crown and a short peak, as is typical of Gebirgsjaeger caps.

    Happy hats.

    Viel Sammlerglueck.

If you find a cap like the one below, I will happily take if off your hands at a profit.

However, what is more likely, is people are happily using the images we post as a Vorlage and are making them like french fries at McDonalds.

... and fotos or not - has any forum member seen any 'ss-dienstkappe' marking at all in any sort of cloth headgear, schwartz or feldgrau (including obvious fakes)?

and if your best guesstimate is 'phony' also please chime in. I'd love to hear as well from bob coleman and bob hritz amongst others.

In 44 years I have not seen this term in an RZM tag or any official document connected with the SS.
Plus, I have a long association with the Austrian army and know how they describe these things.
