Here is his hat. I do own a Signalpfeife, but I cannot find the image. The age difference between the young woman and our SS officer is intriguing. It is a pity the image is not especially clear.

As I wrote before, there were a lot of good looking women in the Passau area.

They are more interesting than the uniforms, really.

The Fotoatelier archive of Inn and Donau is a real treasure.

The very Catholic areas of Bavaria were among the more resistant to inroads of the NSDAP at the time, even though this area was also adjacent to the birth place of national socialism's most well known figure....

It would be interesting to know the biography of the owner of the photo Atelier, as to his background and possible political outlook. Someone more intelligent than I in content analysis and some statistical rendering of these thousands of images could then assess them for us, somehow.
Actually, some (German language) biographical and historical data to that effect can be found following a link from that site's index page:
    Rotel - Tours: Museen
The photo studio was established and run by an unmarried woman named Helene Maurer (1895 - 1973). Opened in Dec. 1936, the studio was in business until late 1953, which is also the time span covered by the archived photographs.
No direct informations on Ms. Maurer's political views are given, but she is described as a cultured, artistically inclined and, most of all, deeply religious person and frequent churchgoer - who even died in a pew of a church at Niedernburg - thus I think it is at least unlikely that she was also an enthusiastic believer in the Nazi philosophy.

Dear Sir, thanks. That is very interesting. Maybe such explains the character of the images, to be sure. Dare I say that the images of the women are more interesting, there are a great deal of Catholics, as is perfectly normal for this part of Germany, to be sure, and there are not a lot of protzige Nationalsozialisten at all. And please do not think I am accusing anyone of anything; but, on the contrary, my point is that even a "totalitarian" country was something less than that, especially in its regions. In any case, we are very grateful to you, colleague HPL, for opening a window to the past that is so much more interesting than most of what we see here. The world of the Danube is especially close to my heart for various reasons. Danke vielmals!

Thanks for the extra information. Very interesting to know the studio was ran by a lady.

I must confess, I was diverted by some of the images on display, some very pretty girls!

Another couple of images from the site of a sporty member of the Totenkopfverbande. Taken on 12.02.1941. Alois Blösl

    Cheers, Ade.

Here is the NSKK potentate from Linz with his Schnutzi, who is also possessed of a winning smile.

I wonder what became of this marriage and its subjects after 1945? I forgot to write down this man's name.

The Totenkopf person in Ade's post is of note for the date of the image, i.e. 1941 as well the absence of a cuff title.

I am deeply impressed about the first photo link to see the Adj. cord that was done in black/silver so nicely and clear in a photo. This is the first time I see it in this way detailed. Very nice and thanks for sharing!

Now please go there to Niederbayern and Passau and kindly find all the uniforms, since the names are with the images if you look closely. It will be ein Kinderspiel, but please share with those of us less blessed.

    Viel Sammlerglueck!
