I understand your frustration, Brian. But this is one of the few items that the fakers haven't nailed.

I also think it's an Old Boy's Club factor also. I wouldn't get very frustrated by it. Drive on.

The fakes I have seen have an EK1 type pin. There was an auction recently with a fake that had the attachments like the original, here's a link to the thread, register if you're not. It is VERY close to the original. And is very close in the reverse.

Carlsson has posted an original, but the GD.com piece was a fake and old Phil's is a ridiculous copy that is not even close.

Please correct me if I am wrong, as this is not my field, but the items in the youtube link look like total BS to me:

Grand Cross to the Iron Cross, come on.

The pilot badge is like nothing I have ever seen.

The video was not of the best quality, but the item that the collector (and I use that term loosely) had "never seen another one of" and that he did not know what was (I'll go along with that) looks to me, to be a polish "Deaths Head" hussars badge.

The one with the deaths head in a cross.

I'm sure others here will know far more than I.

The second piece you posted is a modern fake. That is the incorrect finish, backplate and attachments. The 21 mark is incorrect as they were not made by Godet. Posting the reverse will only help identify this type of copy.
