Those are some of the best pictures of caps ive seen especially in one place and period worn, i agree about the rakish way the hats are arranged , almost to the point of complete disfigurement in some and its strange that they were allowed to get away with it, as Ade said a Sgt/Majors nightmare
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings

Can anyone explain this guy's cap to me?
By the way thanks for the link, Ade. There are some fantastic photos on that site.
That's the cap of the Flemish Germanic SS. (Allgemeene SS Vlaanderen / Germaansche SS in Vlaanderen)
Instead of the national eagle, the Germanic SS formations in Flanders had this elongated Swastika, those in the Netherlands had a "Wolf's Hook" and the Danish Schalburg-Korps a winged "mobile" Swastika, while the Death's Head was common to all of them.
(The man in the photograph SS-Onderstormleider August Schollen, murdered on 4 December 1942 in Brussels.)
