    Hi Pete,

    He was named Thomas Crapper and was never knighted, but was awarded a royal warrant for the supply of plumbing goods in the 1880's after the then Prince Edward had his firm fit out the newly aquired Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Crapper didn't actually invent the flush water closet, as you say, he improved on it with such inventions as the ballcock, and promoted it's use as a sanitary device.

    Well at least we all know where to go now when we're desperate(for information on the history of European toilets)!! Ned , you really are a fountain(bidets?)of knowledge!! Oh by the way , I had an idea about the suitcase , open it up and convert it into a portaloo! Leon.

    Hehe..yeah, I needed a good laugh myself

    For some reason, this thread reminded me of the movie,"Dumb & Dumber" when Jim carry was trying to return the suitcase that a woman left behind. He couldn't remember her last name, so his friend said to look on the suitcase. "oh, it's Samsonite!!.."
