Sturmband, in the form as worn from about 1934 until 1938

This piece is the property of Robert Hassler, a very fine man, indeed.

Sturmband in the post 1937 variety, often wrongly described as officers' cuff titles for the Standarte, but, indeed, for the Sturm in the Allgemeine SS Standarten....

To be sure, in some cases officers did wear the Standarte number on the cuff, but such was the case, I believe, if they were on the staff of the Standarte solely.

general arrangement of a tailored SS officer's tunic. Such items were also worn as 1 Garnitur for enlisted ranks, too, in many cases, or surely by NCOs.

This tunic was for the Saarbruecken Sta. for an officer on the staff of the 1st Sturmbann, denoted in Roman numerals...which one usually assumes was for the Abschnitt, but in this case was for the Sturmbann staff.

In the main, officer's tunics tend to be tailor made and unmarked, but there are surely exceptions of issue, enlisted tunics having been upgraded.

The latter are the exception, especially as the 1 Garnitur tunics are those that have survived, i.e. the one for extra wear.

This tunic emerged in Manion's ca. 1978, went at some point to the glamor So. California dealers and thence to a well known Arizona collector/author who is in the process of liquidating his important collection.

This is a Sudeten SS tunic from Saaz that was, in fact, an issue piece with the VA stamp and the RZM/SS tag. It was sold by Shea and was found by Burrmeister in a "motel buy." It is pictured otherwise in a Schiffer book on war booty.
