    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
below a little bit of info

Three days after issuance of this "Ersatz" Soldbuch, Posch was wounded in action while now a member of a "Totenkopf" Reserve unit participating in the "Grossaktion" of the Warsaw Ghetto. Proof of this can be found in the 1979 edition [Pantheon Books] of "The Stroop Report", a day to day account of the Warsaw Ghetto Action [photo-copies from this book are included with this research]. Posch's SS rank, name, date of birth and unit he served with [4. Company SS Panzer Grenadier Reserve Battalion - unfortunately not listed in Posch's "Ersatz" SS Soldbuch] at the time of his being wounded are listed on page six of the original Report. Date of his wounding was listed as May 14, 1943. Posch was a member of the night assault unit listed in the original Report for that date [original Report pages seventy and seventy-one]. As four Waffen SS members are listed [by name (to include Posch) on page six of the original Report] as being wounded in a night action May 14, 1943, and all four Waffen SS members listed as wounded for that date are all from the same unit [4. Company SS Panzer Grenadier Reserve Battalion - of which Posch was at that time a member], it is clear that Josef Posch was indeed one of those wounded during the midnight firefight with Ghetto resistance members. Unfortunately, this wounding does not appear as being officially listed anywhere in Posch's "Ersatz" SS Soldbuch. The non-listing of Posch's Ghetto battle wounding may[?] have intentionally been done for security reasons.

Posch's fate is not known [date of last official "Erstaz" SS Soldbuch entry was March 4, 1944, from the Danzig-Matzkau SS and Police Punishment Camp], but should he have survived the war he surely would have been wanted by the Allies and Soviets in connection with War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity regarding his association with the Montelupich Prison in Krakow and his participation in the infamous 1943 Warsaw Ghetto "Grossaktion".
I would imagine this is a remarkably rare tunic and related set of documents from someone who took part in the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto, thank you for sharing it.

If he survived the war I don't think there was any great danger of Posch being pursued for war crimes, the Western Allies especially the US quickly dropped the search and arrest of Nazis and their whole de-Nazification policy as the Cold War with the Soviets started to become apparent and became a higher priority than the hunt for Nazi war criminals. I believe the Soviets arrested and tried significantly more German war criminals than all of the western Allies.
    I collect, therefore I am.

My eye was immediately drawn to the fourth pic as that along with pic number two was one of those I knew or had seen before.

The reason for my interest for that partucular photo is that JOSEF BLÖSCHE is in the fourth pic.

I mentioned JOSEF BLÖSCHE in this old post describing what I thought an interesting tale:

Something which BTW was TOTALLY ignored by the forum, who evidently did not deem it worthy of notice....and now Im going to sulk in a corner!

Please read post # 3 here in this thread, and you can watch the documentary on this man in You Tube, as well. PS, you could have watched it, but the link is kaputt.
You can read the book, though, I have enclosed. -BOOK-

    Yes, I read your post.
The documentary is what I link to in my old 2012 post about BLÖSCHE.
The link in my old post is indeed broken (needless to say, the link worked back then), but here is a working one:

    And thank you.
I agree; books are so very valuable and not fleeting like videos. I very much treasure my books and reading itself.

If you are interested in this young boy, you should look up some of the art by the holocaust survivor Samuel Bak. He incorporates the child into many of his masterpieces. Part of his collection is on a tour right now, in fact. It is going to the holocaust museums throughout the states. I had the pleasure to view it when it came to Houston and was quite impressed.

    Thanks.
In regards to this thread, it was more the psych ward case Blösche.

The pic of the kid and his expression is haunting and remain so, even in the face of ever changing times, politics, ignorance et al.

Knowing what Blösche did and seeing him hovering like a vulture in the background in the pic, somehow makes the pic and the expression on the face of the kid even more haunting IMO.

I know, that some tried to find out his identity, but so far the search for the ID of the kid has been futile AFAIK.

I buy books and then don't read them, because of life nowadays. Very silly and somehow quite sad. Ein Kulturverlust.
    Same here and I agree.

I blame TV, 'puters and the interweb

    Poignant murals.

Even though a horrible cliche, some pics and the haunting feelings they evoke, echoes through time - the ghetto pic and and the associated murals amongst them.

Not that many in modern 'civilized' society has time nor interest in dwelling on these memories how ever valuable lessons potentially could be drawn from them.
