Waffen SS Poster

Thiis is probably not the right section to post this if so my apoligies.

I purchased this poster in a rolled up state in the UK recently, the paper has a really strange feel to it.

There is slight damage to the top of the W, I debated whether to touch it up but decided against it.

I had it framed quickly to conserve it, but I would invite comment please, for example there is one particularly strange aspect which needs explaining.

Not sure what the aspect is that needs explaining. The poster you have shown looks like one of the many Waffen SS recruiting posters of the period. I believe the designer of this one was Hans Schweitzer (1901 - 1980). After the war he had a very successful career in graphic arts.

Hi Brad, I am sorry to say this is one of the current fakes made in Russia. A dealer here in the UK sells them, as "real" I might add. The paper looks brown so appearing old, but is not. The colours are also bright and garish.

The one shown by Lebus is what I would expect to see on an original.

Just a little bit more info. The signature ' Mjolnir ' was Schweitzers nick name and of course was the name of Thor's hammer. If you paid a lot of money then get a refund if not then it looks OK as a display piece. I have many historical prints framed and know it isn't cheap to have done.

Differences between the original and fake are glaringly obvious. The fake looks
to have been copied by a child - especially the face.........
