The first thing i notice, must be that the cap looks like it left the factory yesterday- But the skull is more worn..

A WSS colored cap in California...A WSS colored cap in California...The badges can tarnish on otherwise fairly mint caps depending on the climate and such.

However, this Waffen SS cap is far too good to be true.

Only $18,995.00 with a great seller explication :

A rare example of a high quality private purchase Waffen SS officer's visor cap made by one of the top 4 hat producers during the III. Reich: the firm of Clemens Wagner in Braunschweig. The cap is made of field grey/green trikot wool with correct black velvet band and cavalry golden yellow wool piping, per 1940 regulation. Cap spring has been removed during the period and the crown has been 'pinched' in the popular period style. Black glossy visor with criss-cross reverse is undamaged. Aluminum bullion chincords are nearly 'frozen' in position; they've not been adjusted for 60+ years and have left their pattern pressed deeply into the velvet band. The eagle shows some tarnish to its slivered finish; the skull is original but has been replaced (you cannot tell, but this was disclosed by the seller). The cap is lined with black silk with correctly sewn pleats to the side panels, typical of Clemens Wagner visor caps. The lozenge-shaped celluloid sweat-shield is intact and "Meister Klasse" with oakleaves and the 'CW' logo is printed in gold beneath. Leather sweatband is perforated at the front and is in the 'over and under' style, with the sweatband at the forward portion of the cap being folded and sewn under and at the rear half being hand-stitched. This feature is seen only in high quality officer's caps. Since color piped Waffen SS visor caps are automatically suspect, as are maker marked examples, due to their rarity, I've gone over this cap with high magnification and can see absolutely no sign of extra stitching holes, reassembly, restitching, or any other evidence that would indicate that the cap is anything problematic. The cap shows some wear and age with a few dark marks to the sweatband. Overall an outstanding example of a rare visor cap!

A WSS colored cap in California...Clemens Wager made SS caps, that's for sure.

What the deal is with these "colored pipes" I know not, and care less.
