    Default Rad m-42

Another RAD helmet issued to an RAD member attached to a Heer unit. The helmet has an inventory number on the skirt. Most likely, this helmet was worn by RAD member working on the Atlantic defenses in France

Years ago, a similar helmet was posted on either WAF or GDC. It also had a white painted inventory number on the skirt.

    Hi Pierre-
Although rarer than a SS helmet, a RAD helmet lacks the desirability of a SS helmet.

    Hi Bob,

That is a beauty! Nice helmet! Of interest to me is the difference in spacing between the eagle's head and each wing on a clearly original decal . . I have an SD single decal RAD M42 that has decal remains on the left side and appears to be an SS reissue. While some of the helmet "experts" on another forum have unequivically declared that the decal on my helmet is a "known fake", it has the same difference in spacing between the eagle's head and the wing as yours does. I'll try to get a pic or two up on this thread. I've not noticed that spacing difference before but it is nice to see it as well on yours, which is to my mind an original beyond question!

One correction: when viewed from the rear of the helmet, the RAD decal on my M-42 is on the left side, the remains of what appears to be an EF SS decal with its particular shield shape and border (the shell is an EF 64) which was removed in the field is on the right.

Bob, I must have missed this one, I love the mixed service branch decals, really adds to the charachter of this piece. And yes RAD are far rarer than most SS although there are some pretty rare versions of SS helmets out there!

Bill, any chance of seeing that EF SS decal?
