    Hi all,
I'm new here and an avid collector of WW2 items.
I'm not sure if I have posted this in the right place, I'm sure someone will tell me.
I thought I'd share a helmet I bought off eBayUK, the chap said it was a ground dug item and came from Russia somewhere.
After reading Dimas' advice on rust removal with oxalic acid, I tried it out with this helmet, the result is outstanding.
Unfortunately I didn't take any 'before' photos, but you can get the idea of how it looked prior to the rust removal by looking at the liner band which I haven't touched.
I find it amazing that a helmet that took such a heavy hit still has a relatively undamaged liner.
Let me know what you think.

    Hi Trumper

Welcome to the forum. Did the decal appear after you've used oxalic acid or was it allready visible before you used it?

    Hi,
The decal was visible but not nearly as visible as it is now. It had a film of rust over the entire decal, you could see it was there but no detail. Now you can see details like the swastika and the wings.
I have put a close up of the decal as it is now.

    What an awsome relic!
I have had many but none like that one.It was probably empty at time of hit as the blood would have rotted the leather away.Nice remain's of decal too
