    Hi Didier,

The main difference should be the same as "normal" M40s and M42s.

In order to cut cost/ quicken the production process, the rim of M42 helmets were left "unfinished" and flared out. The rims on M35 and M40s were "finished" aka rolled back. In case you're wondering, the difference between M35s and M40s is that M35s have separate vent pieces, while M40 vents are stamped into the helmet.

The verdict is still out on why some helmets have beads. Most will say that the bead signifies helmets that were found to be of inferior quality and deemed unfit for front-line combat duty. The bead identifies them as such and they were used by rear echelon troops, police, and luftschutz, etc.

I've seen a few types of liners in beaded helmets and luftschutz helmets especially. These range from liners that are the same quality leather used in "fit for combat" M35s, M40s, M42s, to liners that are wax paper-like in consistency.

One beaded helmet that has since left my collection had a wax paper-like liner:

Joe has it covered, but I'll add that beaded M42's are quite a bit rarer than other models.
