Not an SS, they used black paint for parade and ceremonial purposes which was not called for much after 1938. The only black SS parade helmets I've seen post 38 were the Danish Schalburg Korps who were emulating the Allgemeine SS and the ceremonial dress.

I have a helmet just like this. I removed the black paint and found a single decal Heer underneath. If I remember correctly, many helmets like these were post-war Czech repaints.

Mo is correct, it is probably a Czech lid.
What was type of liner was in it before ? You can buy re-worked
black shells like this off Ebay from Czechloslovakia,
Latvia or Estonia.........

I also had one like this and deffo Czech and I traded it for a Lufty great coat

@ Walkwolf: there was no liner in it. I bought the liner on a show.
