Can anyone read this name?
Hey all, bought a M40 Heer the other day and the liner's named; I can't read it but I'd love to be able to research the German soldier it belonged to. Anyone more familiar with period German handwriting have any idea what it says? The forename looked like Leucien to me.
Thanks,
Robbie

Try sending pics to Dieter Stenger at Stenger Historica and then he can also research your helmet.

I would say it says Lencsés Gyula. (Lencsés being the family name and Gyula the Christian name.) This is a Hungarian name.

Re: Can anyone read this name?
It will be a costly job (if at all possible) to research a soldier without a a feldpost number.

Thanks for the responses everyone; I'll have a go at looking the guy up, although I don't hold high hopes. I briefly entertained the notion that the symbols below the owner's name were somehow related to his rank in the military but it's all too cryptic to tell for certain... it's a shame, I really would have liked to have found out who it belonged to!
