Difficult one, although the buckle looks like an early one, the date stamp on the outside concerns me 1942 on a 1935 type buckle? probably wrong, but I'm not comfortable

Exactly my thoughts too. I don't like the look of it.

Take a look at Ken N's helmet parts page. He has a few chinstraps for sale if you need one, including a cheap and cheerful one with a decent repair.

Hi,this ones not one I would be happy with,the ends look much to "pointed/sharp" in their cut. Leon.

Ditto re the comment so far ,,, i think i can see previous stitch holes in the first picture , therefore buckle may have been added to a suspect strap
