A cracking lid! That story reminds me of when I was a kid. Back in the 60's, a friend of the family brought home an M35 SD Heer helmet which had been sitting on a shelf at Woodford airfield since the end of the war. It was truly immaculate. But after a while I got fed up with it, I took it to Shudehill market in Manchester and sold it to a dealer for 37/6d (1.75p).
