EF62 lot 31487 unusual small size and had a name at one time...anyone know why the split pins were painted over grayish zimmermint color? Paid 170 so also hoping that wasn't too much...

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a good one. I'm just baffled as to why the spiltpins were painted a zimmermint grayish color?

Although I prefer larger size shells, that's a good buy at that price, in my opinion...Nice to see a Brown Chinstrap...
Is the pin in the rear painted as well?

Yes sir...the back split pin is also painted in that grayish zimmermint color...possibly just a personal modification by the soldier?

Either the split pins were replaced or the paint came off them and they were touched up with a non-matching paint. NH

Maybe the pins were replaced at some point, I really have no idea..."Zimmermint" is a term I'm not familiar with, btw...to me it just looks like grey primer paint...if you meant Zimmeritt, that is a paste applied to armored vehicles to thwart Magnetic Anti-Tank Charges from adhering to the Armor Plate...Never on helmets, despite the myth that seems to persist, lol...
    cheers, Glenn

Zimmermint is a great tasting chewing gum. : ) Cool helmet. There is a similar shade of grey seen on some Third Reich era hardware. I have a work jacket with traces of the same color on it that I think is period. It may be some kind of primer paint or hardware paint - kind of hard to tell. NH

    Love the brown chin strap.

IMO I do not see why a soldier would do this. I would say a post war paint job by a kid. But just my thoughts. I would gently try to remove it.

Hi, I would say that as the rear pin is missing it's washer, the likelihood is that the pins are all replacements and that's why the paint does not match. The rest of the helmet looks honest enough though. Leon.
