These have always been a contentious issue , many believe they did not exist at , others that they were done on a small scale , at kompanie / Zug level , i once spoke with an Afrika Korps veteran who stated his zug had them on their helmets !!

As far as the photo itself goes i'd like to see the edges better and also the reverse !

There are period photos like this in existence. Finding one today that is real is a difficult task as provenance must be bulletproof. Terry (M38) has one I believe.

About ten years ago a friend of mine had one which was brought back from ther desert by a DLI veteran i think i still have some photos somewhere !
