German helmet (real or repro?)

Article about: i picked this up today for about 40 bucks, i though it was cool and had to have, but now looking at it i dont know if its real or fake and if i got a good deal... can someone tell me what ki

    i clean one small spot on the rim of the helmet... it appears to be a gray color underneath the black paint... could that possibly be the original color? and should i keep going? or leave it as is... thanks for the help

    dbale, can you post a clear picture of the removed paint area? Grey as what most people would imagine is not a color used for german helmets. Perhaps the photo will clarify the shade of grey you are referring to. Feldgrau color used for a majority of the helmets was almost a very dark deep green and did not resemble grey to alot of people. So we don't guess we need the photo.

    heres what i got done tonight, (using a papertowel, nail polish remover, and a coin to scrape the black off... to me it looks to be the right color for original paint... any of yall got any more tips on how to do this
