German helmets used by enemy

I am not sure that I would want to be a Russian on the front lines with a German helmet on my squash with all of those trigger happy Ivans looking for some payback lurking around me. I wonder how they decided who got the Ssh 40's and who got the M35's and M40's? Just my 2 cents. Jim G.

I did not think they choose the helmets...

It looks to me like newer soldiers, non-front line personnel, and the less decorated, etc. received the German helmets. If that's how they did it, it doesn't look like they followed it strictly.
