Hey guys, can anybody suggest a good reputable dealer for WW2 German helmets?

I'm new to collecting and have been doing a lot of research, just a bit cautious when it comes to who I buy from.

Whilst in Poland last week with the Mrs I noticed a lot of the black reused civil Czech helmets for sale for around 50.00. Are these an investment or something to be avoided?

    Cheers

you can do a google search for german helmets and find many good dealers.

craigslist is a great way to find some good deals on just about anything, but you have to be very careful about who youy deal with.

DO NOT use e-bay. 99% of helmets on there are fake. plus the reals ones are overpriced and swastikas are banned from ebay so dont expect any good pics of decaled helmets.

Don't expect to buy a decent German helmet for 50

Perhaps it's best to tell us what exactly you are looking for and what you are willing to spend ?

Auction sites in general are to be avoided if helmets are not your strong point.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm looking for a M35 for around 100 - 150. As its my first helmet I really don't mind battle damage, rust etc. Thanks for the advice re eBay, a person is sellling the helmet below as original.

It is this condition I'm looking for to start with.

While original, I would honestly save your money. That is too much.

    Cheers, Ade.

My advice would be to save your money and buy a decent example at a decent price from the start. If you shell out on a relic (pun intended!) you'll always wish you'd spent your money on a better example. Relics are very hard to get your money back on, especially if you've paid the top price on them initially, then you're starting that sum of money down on a potential good helmet purchase.
Luftwaffe single decals are the cheapest and best option to start with. You can still find a decent example at a reasonable price if you shop around.

Real trustworthy helmet dealers don't sell low-end stuff like that I'm afraid.
You should look to spend 800$ at least for something decent.
    Which is what I advise.
