    Well guys, I guess this one should pass muster!

    I would think this is fairly hard to fake ( unless 20 years ago someone got an idea, tied a bone to it and gave it to the dog to play with & bury )

    I think you're right.

    That break in the wire is the clincher.

    If it is faked, the faker should use his considerable skills on something more valuable than a $40 relic.

    But it's a nice lid. Where did you find it?

    I'll pass.

    I'm happy with the one relic I have (no wire), supposed to come from Stalingrad. As I bought it in Yerevan, Armenia, I believe the story.

    Stalingrad/North Caucasus was the closest fighting to there, and there are still a lot of 6th Army lids in those parts.

    It will be interesting to see what he e-bay lid sells for.

    I buy powered red iron oxide to use in ceramic glazes. This just about fills the bill.
