Hey guys I have been looking at this helmet for the past couple of weeks now. It is being offered at an estate sale with other personal affects from a footlocker (from the looks). This is the only picture of the helmet, as I have tried to get a hold of the auctioneer, but have had no luck so far.

Is this a battle damaged piece? From the looks of the picture, it seems to still have a liner peeking thru one of the major holes in the dome. From the pictures it looks to have black paint, not sure if this is just from the angle of the pics or what. Anyways I just wanted a few more eyes on it.

Thanks for the help as always!

There are NEVER estate sells like that around here. For the cool factor alone I would snatch the helmet up if the price was right... Marty

Thanks mart, I noticed the two campaign bars after I posted. I think the one is a Africa-Italy campaign medal and the red-white one I am not for sure.

The thing looks pretty beat up that's for darn sure!

The red and white is a good conduct ribbon.

GET that helmet. Looks like concussion damage to me.

Ill take the uniform and side cap lol!!!

But back to the helmet. I REALLY want to see if it is black. I have a black lid with an intricately painted around decal. Question marks remain if it post war or wartime. This lid looks similar from these poor photos.if this is similar could strengthen the argument that some helmets were painted with black as a former of camouflage. Would like to see nice close ups of the decal.

Battle campaign examples Normandy, northern France, Central Europe. My grandfather had 5 battle stars which then would turn into 1 silver star. So if you served in 7 different battle campaigns the ribbon would have 1 silver and 2 star total of 7.

Yeah Michael I am curious myself with the whole grouping! The liner looks to be intact thru the huge hole.

Maybe a souvenir judging by the other items....what do you think?
