Karl Radermacher ended war in Germany, not in Kurland Pocket. He took part of the first Kurland battle and was sent then to Germany to get Nachkampfspange in Gold. So it is not possible that the award that was found from Kurland some time ago belonged to him. So I belive it is important to know where this helmet was found. If it was from the region the first Kurland battle took place it is possible this helmet really belonged to him. If not, maybe it belonged to someone with the same name. There were more than 500 000 Germans in Kurland, so no wonder when there were more than 1 Radermacher.
You are quite correct 21 ID didn't remain in Kurland until the surrender , i corresponded with Karl on a few occasions so i'm sure if his health is still good he will be interested in this , i'm waiting for confirmation of his current address etc !!

According to several sources he's still alive.

Now this is truly amazing. The odds of this are pretty incredible. It may be the same helmet as the one shown in the picture judging by the multiple layers of paint. Really looking forward to see how this one turns out.

This is a bit of a zombie thread I know, ( and apologies for raising it from its 6 year sleep ) but did ANYTHING come of it?
Sadly I know many of the contributors are gone - and some are even on our Honor Roll - but it would be nice to draw a final line under it.......
