    This is a photo of a friend who was a mechanic that was right behind the 3rd army he got this helmet from a tank that was found outside of one of the (work) camps. He found a camera in the tank and took pictures of the camp with it then threw the camera away and kept the film and the helmet. The pictures are in a Museum in Washington DC.

    Great story. by work camp is it a concentration camp or something else?

    That is a nice looking M42 with a decent looking liner, and a name as well, hope he gives you the helmet

    I think Gagevet is referring to the US Army Ordnance Corps work camps, or shops
    set up behind the lines to deal with supply and repair.


    This is a really great photo of the Vet and his 'liberated' trophy..........!

    Yes it was a concentration camp, the infantry had just left when they got there the pictures are unbelievable I will try to post them sometime in the future.

    If it was 3rd Army it would have been Dachau or perhaps one of the Mauthausen camps.

    This is a really nice helmet. I love the nice clean name on it. I bet this one could be fairly easily researched.
