How much of this helmet is original? The shell looks OK to me, however the liner and especially the plastic 'flower' between the lid and liner looks later. Obviously the decals are BAD and I assume the paint job was done with a big brush post war. Any redeaming features at all??

Gents, the entire helmet is post war made, early fifties, (notice the "plastic" spider attachment for the liner) by the manufacturer " Linnemann and Schnetzer" who at this time were producing the M52/M53 steel helmets for the Police, BGS and Fire, this it is a Firemans helmet not Luftshutze, interesting if one collects Fire Department memorabilia...if not, useless !
    Prost ! Steve.

As this looks like an aluminium shell it could be relatively recent - I read somewhere that German fire departments stopped using the all leather liners by 1968 but that the solid plastic liner frame was used with aluminium shells until 1985 - after that they replaced the solid plastic with nylon straps.
