    Nope, it is an original M40 shell made by Quist.

    This helmet has also been painted black.
    I'll take a stab and say it is a post-war
    Norwegian lid.........

    There seems to be a trend with your inherited helmets. They start out as some kind of original or partial original of some kind and then get paint and decal to look like SS. This one stands a chance of being original shell and liner but we need more photos. Liner band and any markings on the skirt. The drawstring is not correct. Looks like a shoe lace. NH
