lid, and salty.
It was only recently that i came across collectors calling helmets lids, and salty.I like salty as it says the helmet is well battlefield used. Most of my helmets as relics can be desbribed as double salty. Im not so sure i prefer to call them lids as i prefer to call them helmets or stahlhelms, although whatever they are called you know like you,i like collecting them.where did the word salty come from ?lv

Re: lid, and salty.
i thought it was derived from the term old salts as in veterans or salty as in old sailors type of thing you know with plenty of originality and character but thats just my humble opinion
