The grandfather of German Helmet collecting sadly passed away yesterday. The hobby owes a great debt to the man who published the "bible" of German helmet collecting which no serious German helmet collector should be without. Few leave a lasting legacy in this world. He left thousands inspired to collect and fueled with the passion of the hobby. My condolences to his family. This thread will be copied and sent to his family on request, if you'd like to leave a few a words.

I'm very sad to hear this, we have lost a real pioneer in understanding the intricacies of our hobby. A big thanks to Mr Baer for his work and my condolences to those he leaves behind.

It would be nice to have something on the forum named after him a la the John Burnett forum at WAF.

This is Very sad to hear, though it was inevitable, as it always is. I second Andy's suggestion for a section named in his honor. Rest in peace knowing you have left a great legacy and touched more lives than you may have ever thought possible.

    God speed
