No, its been wiped over with oil....I do this once every 3 or 4 years. It soon dry's out and there is no lasting ill effects.

Are you sure it won't degrade the decals over time?

After 40 years of the same thing every 3 or 4 years I can't see it doing any damage. I would not do it if I thought the was a causing any problem.
