Thanks Paul , looking forward to some better photos.
Here's a good topic that shows the many variations of early helmets : http://www.walhalla.se/topic/37585-t...__hl__earliest

I have an issue with the Heer decal , I fear it is a bad one Paul.
The tricolor looks dug so the other one was probably too and maybe restored.

The chinstrap is also a hybrid it seems as these really early lids have the rollerbuckle straps. This one has a part of that but the other part also seems added more recently than WW2.

Here's how such a strap should look. Also on an M18 DD Heer with very early 1931 hardware. Often they are broken as they are fragile on one side.

based on the provided pics I tend to agree, not an original Heer decal IMO

Frank here is another hopefully better shot of the decal taken in normal daylight, it certainly looks as if it has been cleaned / rubbed down at some time !!

    cheers

Hi Paul, I agree with Ivan and Frank, that's a problem decal and possibly even a fake KM as upon close examination it appears to be a gold print and not toned. There is definite scrubbing as well.

He's going to be disappointed Doug as he was going to put this one up for sale i said i'd post it for him due to the damage to the decals , he is an old time collector although he specialises in badges and awards, and has had this one for may years but better he knows now than when he tries to sell it.

He was under the impression that it was a KM decal and not a toned Heer , under a loup it does seem to have a metallic , pulver content which my camera isn't good enough to show !

    cheers

It's tough to make out what fake it is but it appears the product they used to age it wiped the black lines away in some places.
The damage , the design and the color. For me it is not a good decal.
Some USB close-ups would probably blow this one out of the water.

I was gonna say KM as well, especially due to the 'M' stamp under the reichswehr eagle. I'm not an expert on these but this is just the feeling I got at first glance. The decal also appears KM ,IMO .

I would be careful to trash this one. I am intrigued by the Reichswehr Marine stamp in the liner. If this is really a KM, it is extremely rare. I am liking certain details on the eagle decal, frankly. We need better pictures of the decal!

What do you think of the claws Scott? It would be interesting to see this under USB as Frank suggests. The missing black print also has me very concerned.
