The chinstraps should be held on by the d-rings which are an integral part of the linerband apparatus.

    DougB,
Thank you for your time. What I wanted to know is how the chin straps are connected to the "D" rings. I noticed that most of the collectors helmets had rivets holding the chin strap to the "D" rings. The ones I have seen on e-bay appeared to have been sewn on. Do you know witch is correct?
    Thanks, Jerry

Jerry sorry my mistake, yes it should be a small hollow core rivet about 3cm in diameter.

Not necessarily. All the M33 helmets pre 1945 I have in my collection have 2 rivets to hold the chinstrap.

    Matt R.
Thank you for the pictures. I guess the ones I saw on e-bay were post WW2.
Thank you and DougB for taking time to explain what I wanted to know.
    Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, most of the post ww2 helmets have a canvas chinstrap. Many ww2 helmets were reutilised post as well, so they keep the original linings.
You should post the pics to know if it was period or post.
