I pulled this one out of storage today. It is a decent M35 double decal Luft, absent the strap. It has a reinforced aluminum banded liner which is in very good shape, on which there are circular stains that I believe were the result of the soldat resting the pot on his gas mask canister. The liner has never been out. It is an EF 64, lot # 3859. The decals are chipped, and the paint on the heads of the split pins is worn, so it did see some use. Nothing earth shattering, but I like it a lot. Jim G.

    Hello Jim,

I can see why you like it, it has lots of character. Good one. Perhaps your man had a bald patch and a really sweaty head!!

    Cheers.

Thanks for showing! The quality of these early helmets is unmatched. Anybody know when they switched from square D rings to rounded? 1939?

The D ring changed in 1940 I believe. But still possible to find M40 pattern helmets with the earlier square rings on the newer liner.

Around 1940 when they switched to the steel banded liners. I have one or 2 helmets with on square and one rounded chin strap bale. If I can dig one out I will post it. Best regards, Jim G.
