Default Heer M35 Helmet: Before And After

Found on-line recently and advertised as "German M40 helmet, Q64 - fresh from estate".

Rusted, with a couple coats of paint - silver over pale blue - I realize this 'blue' may have been original 'camo' but it's too late now. M35 in disguise.

I really just wanted an old beat up lid to strip down completely and restore. This one will make it a little simpler, although now I'll have to find an original early liner, pins, and chin strap..................

I was a bit too hasty with the paint removal, and the decal got smeared a little, but it's still there !

    Here's what was hiding underneath.........

Still a bit more to come off the back, inside, and the crevasses. I used an acetone treated
cloth product called "Graffiti Wipes". This is what almost killed the decal completely, it's very strong.

I have brought back some helms from overpaints. I use lacquer thinner on a q-tip and roll it over the area. I also sponge it on with a paper towel and blot it....

    Nice job Steve!

Looks a lot better in the photos ! Still a lot more to complete it fully.

Was really a case of "To do or not to do" because I knew the decal there.
By the time I started wiping off the outer layers, it was too late.
It looked kind of 'crappy' the first place, don't you think ? ! .............

    Regards, Steve.
