    Good afternoon gents,

    As I have said many times I am not a "helmet guy" but I like them and do have a few (well, about 30 actually ) from around the world which add depth to my collection which is mostly medals, badges etc.

    I am not totally ignorant of the subject but always like to ask the opinions of those who concentrate on particular areas of the hobby.

    So, I would invite comments on this example;

    I have it down as; M35 ET64 Heer DD originally "pea green" with later brush over paint in darker green. I wonder if the overpaint was done before the change in decal regulations as trouble was clearly taken to avoid the decals although it was clearly done away from workshop conditions such as in the field as it was obviously no artist wielding the brush

    What do the experts think?

    Regards

    Mark

    I love it. Great helmet. I have a weakness for M35 repaints and this one is one of the best. Seldom see one with both decals showing.

    Cheers,
    Terry

    Many thanks for the quick reply Terry and I value your input as one who cites WWII helmets as a main interest.

    I am sure there are others lurking between the threads who are bursting with opinion so let's hear it gents

    Hi Mark, I used to own one very similar to this several years ago, a classic example of an M35 that had it's "shiney" finish over painted around 1939 for the start of hostilities. That's why the National shield was carefully painted around as the decal drop was not in place then. A superb helmet, a real beauty. Leon.

    Thanks Leon,

    That is exactly what I was driving at. The possibility that this lid was "in at the start" as it were!

    Hello Watchdog, has the inside of the dome and under the liner band been painted, or was that the original colour?
