Well...there are obviously two decals. The top one being misapplied (not unheard of with these delicate Luft decals). But not sure why they would add a 2nd decal over the other that appears to be fine.

Who is the maker? ET? Q? Looks like the 2nd Pattern "with the dot" on the top of the right wing.

Helmet has been varnished as well.

Edit: Doh!!! I just saw the title. You noted two decals....double Doh!
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

There have been quite a few helmets on here with x2 decals like this - indeed Michael your SS helmet has two decals one over the other.
And I've seen them on several dealer sites - Luftwaffe, Heer, SS.
I'll let others comment on the authenticity of the decal, but the gloss finish somewhat ruins the helmet for me.

The decal is good and these quirky examples are very interesting to collect it is only a pity that an earlier collector lacquered the surface.

    Yes Nick.

I'm not worried with the two decals. Uncommon but not unheard of for sure.

The decal looks good but I never fully trust my decal opinions in originality so always like to hear from others for confirmation

I've made a couple of mistakes recently - perhaps got a bit over confident in my analysis...
I guess there is no substitute for years of experience and focussing on collecting helmets.

Applied to get a 3d effect of the bird is my first guess. Then when the top decal was applied the worker noticed the swas had different position, but he followed order anyway and placed it on the lid as the owner (a officer maybe) had ordered.

Haven't bought it yet, seller wants $250usd for it, it's missing leather part of liner but has liner band so go for it?

Up to you mate, for me the gloss finish would be a turn off but if you don't mind it then the price doesn't seem too bad.
