    Default M35 or M40?

Hi guys, Just got back from New Mexico and the last day I was there I found one of the last helmets my uncle owned, It looks like it was a ocean or ground dug one that repainted 2 or 3 since it was found. Someone has drawn a swastika on the right side and in the front sorry for one picture of the helmet. Some one also put appoxi over a rust of bullet hole at one point should I remove the paint to put it back to its original state?

The photo is a bit shaky, but it looks like a M40 by the type of vent hole.

There should be stamped vents on M40's and separate pieces
pressed into each hole on M35's.

It also looks like a larger size (66 maybe ?) any numbers inside the rim?

Theres to many pitting holes to see anything, theres one number of the serial number left though

    Hey, Homer !

I can't really tell what is on there from the photo, but be careful not to remove
too much too fast. there may be original paint or a decal hiding underneath !

Could you post a much better photo of the helmet and the bullet hole too ?
( The epoxy should be hard and brittle enough if you wanted to try and gently
peel it off....) Was someone trying to cover up the hole ?

    Regards, Steve.

Ill take some better better pics when I'm done with some school stuff. but what makes me believe its a relic helmet is cause the air hole on the left side is uneven and has some part rusted off and with the amount of little rust holes so I'm thinking that a kid took daddys helmet out and painted it 2 or times then sold it. then someone used a sharpie to draw a swastika on the front and right side where a decal would be

If you don't like the current paint job, you could strip it down,
or give it a coat of more suitable colour. The swastika
should come off with a little solvent

(I've got a M35 shell which I'll post, that is in need of some TLC !)

    Regards Steve.
