    Default M40 Chicken wire helmet

    Hello all,

I have my doubts about this one. The shell appears to have artificial aging, mainly because the liner looks to be in far better condition than the shell. The chinstrap maker mark looks a little odd too. Does anyone have any opinions about the helmet overall? Thanks.

I can't comment in any depth about the wire etc, but I do concur with you regarding the shell and liner. The shell looks like a semi- relic I have and like you, I would question why the shell is so pitted and the liner appears to have escaped damage.

Looks like an artificially aged fabrication and not something I would bother pursuing (IMO).

With a gravely pitted shell like that one would AT LEAST expect a lot worse condition of the wire --- nothing adds up here when individual components and their wear are looked at in relation to each other... points that have for the most part already been touched upon. EVERYTHING looks artificially aged. A horrible and ugly fake.

Thank you both for the comments. It does appear that I will not be pursuing this piece.

From what I have learned from this site over the years I would pass on this one.

Looks like it's had the "Hoover bag treatment" to me on top of all the other red flags.

i would expect this finish to the shell was from a drill mounted wire brush
