    I am pretty familiar with US m-1 helmets. But know very little about German WII helmets. I would like to grab one for my collection. I have the opportunity to buy this m40 for $650. So three questions;

    1. Is a legit wwII era m40? Not a repo, right?
    2. Is it worth $650(US)?
    3. Anything I need to ask the owner?

    All looks in order from here. $650 is a pretty good price too, not a bargain but not ridiculous. Only bad thing I'd say is it looks to have been cleaned, but that's a pretty minor point.

    It looks ok to me... $650 is fine, maybe a little high, so you could try to haggle a little.

    You should find out the marker and size of the helmet. These markings can be found here:

    I'm comfortable with this one. I think it's all original. Price isn't bad, but if he's trying to get rid of it, see if you can haggle him a little and get it for maybe $500-550, that would be a really good buy! Good luck.

    Will do. Is $550 a reasonable offer?

    The only thing that would concern me would be if the liner and chinstrap
    leather is too brittle or not. Other than this it looks ok, and is a
    pretty good buy at $500-$600..........

    Two areas that collectors refrain from buying are damage to the eagles head and to the swastika. This has a lot of damage to the head but the price seems reasonable. The linerband does appear to be upside down, see if the split pins are straight. Could be a factory glitch could be someone messed with it. All in all a reasonable price, if you can get it cheaper your doing very well I think.

    ALso an intriguingly interesting lot number with the letter I stamped below. Why these are on ET helmets nobody knows, I feel it is a steel plate change but who really knows.
