Re: M42
A salty old devil that looks like it has been in a damp barn etc for quite a while !!
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Re: M42
I'd like to see better photos, especially without the flash, to me it looks like it has had a whitewash coating but whether its period only detailed photos could help

Re: M42
The shape of the chinstrap tells that it has been mounted over the front visor for a very long time.

Re: M42
As you chaps say, hard to tell from these pictures but to my eye it looks more like a well weathered cammo.I can see plenty of original green plus a bit of brick red(along side the rust red!!) It could also be showing signs of a winter wash but i think that it is just the effect of poor storage that is giving that look. BETTER PICTURES PLEASE

Re: M42
Better pics needed just as the police lid. Three pics is usually never enough.
