Default M42 EF shell - marked on the back ?

    Hi,

I have m42 ef made shell marked on the back with both size and lot 2516.
The lot number dates it back to 1943.
The stamping is strong and made a small impression on the outside.
My question is when did EF start marking their shells on the back ?

    Thanks.

late 1943 / early '44 I would guess. Something like that.

I don't think it is precisely known for any helmet maker as to when they switched to the rear skirt for maker and lot stamping. As Andy said, somewhere in the 43-44 range.

YEs that is correct and there is a dedicated thread to this on the GHW forum with respect to EF M42 helmets. Another anomoly with them is the font changes from serified to sans serif font as well with side stamping. So, were there multiple assembly lines, or a wholesale change made? Its an interesting question with no real clear answer.
