Default M42 German Helmet, Possible movie prop or restored helmet?

Hey guys, I got this helmet in a pawn shop and they said to me that his helmet was a movie prop, the thing was there was no certificate of authenticity. Then I looked at the helmet and I found some stamp marks on the underside rear of the skirt. I know there are some things that are not original, but I wanna get some input on this and if someone can maybe help validate if this is a fake or real ww2 German helmet. As for it being a prop, maybe help me out on that if you can. Thanks.

Hi and welcome. Could be a Chinese repro helmet. Good helmet for a reenactor. I suspect the decals to be reproduction also. Stamps are unusual I think.

I say complete repro too, the rim is very different to the tool marks left on ET/ckl produced lids and the stamps are wrong. Fair play to the seller for advertising it honestly.

Well, yeah. Obviously the decals are repro. But, the decals aren't my main concern. The stamps got to me too. I'm still trying to figure out what WW2 movie it might've been in since the guy said it was sold to him by a guy who said it was in a WW2 movie.

Movie prop or not, the entire thing is fake. This helmet is one of dozens of varieties that are made in China for reenactors. The stamps are feeble Chinese attempts to copy originals. Fortunately, they aren't even close.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you didn't pay too much...

(Also, it's not an M42, but is what appears to be an M40.)

Dealers sell these repros for about $80, so I hope you did not pay any more
than that - you can buy a genuine relic shell for that price. Nothing genuine
or original about the one above. Likely Chinese made, and probably never
used in a movie - that's just a way of getting around the words
    'fake' and 'reproduction'.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

Understandable. Glad I only paid 50 bucks for it. But, I just looked at it more closely and found something on the inner band of the helmet, the part where the helmet is rivited to the band, and found it said LITZMANNSTADT and 1943 under it. Any ideas about that?
