What's the maker and lot number? Unissued M42. Looks fine to me. Meyle, if stored inside in a neutral environment leather won't rot.

Looks like a good one to me. Minty is all too often mistaken for repro... Sometimes I find our hobby so frustrating! Can't we ever catch a break?!

This helmet looks like the twin sister of my M42:

Yes, the stamps usually have details incorrect however. This one looks fine to me.

i would personally stay away from it i would prefer keeping my money for a better one...
How do you upgrade from unissued? This is a very puzzling comment.

If they can pull human remains out of peat or ice or caves and still recognise tattoos, features and textures after thousands of years, I'm sure a little bit of cow or pig skin can look quite good after only seventy.............

I've said it many times before and will say it once again.

Seventy year old original items can look brand new and factory fresh today, a repro can look seventy years old even if it was made yesterday.

Condition is not the only factor to consider when evaluating an item.

Agree, but not many helmets in the post-war period were stored properly - most were in attics, garages, chests etc, hence my reaction being too new :-)
Looking for following WWII German items:
    - anything dealing with Allenstein (Olsztyn) and Wehrkreis I in East Prussia,
    - entrenching tool carrier (straight and folding),
    - forestry and hunting items,
