I like KM stuff too. Is the paint of the lid so dark or is it just the photo?

It is BLACK, but matte paint... I suppose that it´s a field repaint job, the liner band has traces of paint on it, that is at least what seller Dick & Joe Pankowski told me. For use in Coastal artillery/anti-aircraft units, maybe?
Edit: I did use flash when taking the photos, hence the very dark black paint. When looking at the helmet in natural light, it looks like a lighter shade of black, if it makes sense?

Mine has that green/grey color that the battleships were also painted with.
