    Maybe Latvia? Just a guess
I am sure it is not Latvian, they did paint shields on some of their helmets but always with the canted red/white/red fields similar to your patch. Just last night I was on the phone with Al Barrows and he thinks it is for Russian volunteers. One member of the GHW posted that the white shield was for "stateless men". The consensus is definitely that it was for a "foreign" unit. Which one I think we will never know. Glad you like it, it is definitely an odd ball, due to the painted flash and the fact that it is reissued from WH stock. Cheers, Jim G.
