Messerschmitt Helmet Fantasy?
Hey folks, I have never seen one of these and assumed it was a "fantasy piece" done with a stencil. The helmet shell itself seems ok and appears to be an fireman's helmet with the leather flap. The flap itself and securing tabs seem ok. The liner looks on the new side. Has anyone ever seen one of these? I assume that all major manufacturing facilities had some sort of auxiliary staff on hand whether it be a police presence or safety personnel. Thanks for any information or input on this.
Hi, well I would not trust it, there are Messerschmitt stencils readily available on fleabay! Leon.
sadly my learned friend Mr Fallschirmjager is correct......stencils are readily available....so it COULD be genuine.....but I'd want to sniff the paint (it's a condition I'm seeing a specialist about)
Looks like an original shell that has been repainted,stencilled,and fitted with a replacement liner. IMHO

Yes I have seen the stencils which made me wary. The liner looked too fresh for the helmet. The paint certainly does not seem like a factory finish. I would like to see an original just for personal knowledge reasons.
...mate, that's the trouble...you may just have one there...it could be a really tidy original item but I suspect no-one here will think or believe that. It's the same with divisional flashes and ranked Brit Home Fronters...everyone's suspicious of everything with paint on...God knows what will happen when we all try to sell up!!!!
Like here in the UK, the Germans had Factory staff and some of their helmets were badged...Junkers, Steyr, Messy, Telefunken, IG Faben - they all crop up but deciding if they're "right" or not is another issue!

Messerschmitt Factory Guard/Luftschutz Helmet
90% of the factory helmets out there are fire helmets with such decals added. Mercedes , BMW etc , all has a nice ring to it.
Orginals exists but are very rare.
